The Reichsbahnbunker was first built by Hitler as an above ground air-raid shelter during World War II. Then it was used as a large refrigerator to store exotic fruit during the years of the DDR. After the wall fell it it turned into a famous diskothek in the 90’s– which had parties going 24/7. Finally the authorities shut it down and so they created a new club… the now famous Berghain. Meanwhile the Bunker was acquired by Christian and Karen Boros, and transformed by architects Jens Casper and Petra Petersson into a private museum to house their vast contemporary art collection. Honestly, I am glad it is the last version of the bunker’s life that I got to visit.
And now a shoutout to Frau Washburn’s German Class at Glenbard West High School! Can you say this word? It is my favorite in the German language. Thanks for reading my blog and traveling with me to Berlin!
Also, everything in this city is so cheap… except for my beloved blue tape! 7 euros?!
