While in Cairo, I am living in Maadi, which is a quieter and greener part of the city. This is a part of Cairo where often diplomats and American ex-pats choose to live here, but it still is very much entirely Egypt! Today while doing a bit of exploring I came across this wonderful mural painting project organized by volunteers in the community. I was curious and crossed the street to see what was going on. Before I knew it, I was also painting on the walls adding to the patterns. All ages were helping out and it seemed very much like a group effort. There was a little issue with not enough light blue paint and we couldn’t really match the shade of blue (as you can see in the photo below), but I think the mural turned out well! Now there is a little bit more color in this city of tan sand.
