Well “normal” for me because it was in English. In San Nicholas there are 43 kindergartens, 58 elementary schools, 28 high schools, one university, and a couple other adult training schools. Today I shadowed Emi in her classes at two different schools and kids in third and fourth grade. Emi teaches English and did a fulbright one year ago in New York state. I got to assist a little bit with the lessons and answer questions from students like “what is your name? where are you from? what is your favorite color?” More than ever I am sad that I don’t know Spanish, but with each new country I visit I realize how important language is, and what a gift it was to be able to communicate on my own in Germany.
Thank you Emi and Luciano for a wonderful weekend in La Emilia!
It was such a pleasure to host Lydia! We spent a wonderful weekend in La Emilia! She could experience lots of Argentinian traditions; a birthday, a local social event, a typical Sunday with relatives, English lessons at public schools, delicious food (empanadas, facturas, mate, pasta, picadas) and of course long table talks! We visited some places that were useful for her research and learnt a lot from each other!! It was the least I could do for a friend of the Reeds!
My family and my students will always remember you!! And everyone learnt a lesson: how important is to speak another language!
We wish you all the best for your next adventures around the world!
