International Women’s Day was on March 8th, but Cordoba won’t stop celebrating. To honor women the secretary of culture sponsored a festival featuring 13 different artistic acts in the outdoor greek theatre at Sarmiento Park. Each performance was either by a woman, or a mixed gender ensemble, sending messages promoting women empowerment in their work. The place was packed with families and friends drinking their mate “to go” and eating delicious food from the vendors outside the theatre. The park lies on a hill and behind the stage there is a wonderful view overlooking the city. Not a bad time to be a woman!
My favorite acts are listed below with a youtube link. They all are considered “folklórica,” or traditional music with indigenous roots adapted by the colonialists, sung in Spanish, and often using special instruments.
- Sol Pereyra
- Candelaria Zamar
- Clara Cantore
- Josefina Di Bert (Alma Nomade)
- CCI KIU
