Kia ora! Welcome to New Zealand! Christchurch had a lot of damage from the 2011 earthquake, and four years later the city is still recovering. Most of the rubble is all gone, the demolition stage is mostly over, and the rebuilding has started. (It is hard not to spot at least one construction worker taking a meal or coffee break when you walk around the city.) The first picture above is of the old cathedral, which obviously is not currently being used. There is a bit of controversy as to whether it will be restored to the original or re-imagined as a modern hybrid. The second picture is in the middle of the city where buildings once stood, but is now just an open field…
