Sayamaike and Ando

This museum designed by Ando shows the history how a dam-type reservoir was created through progressive engineering tactics 1,400 years ago the to irrigate all the rice fields in Osaka. My favorite part was that they “recycled” old stone coffins found in large burial mounds to be used in the creation of a large stone pipe, but cutting them in half, removing the ends, and piecing them together. Eco-friendly recycling before it was a thing! And Ando designed the building so of course it is beautiful.

Sometimes looking at the ground is quite rewarding…
